The Silver State Stampede is the oldest rodeo in Nevada. The tradition of Elko’s annual rodeo started in 1913 when GS Garcia, the world-famous bit, spur, and saddle maker, decided that northern Nevada cowboys needed a rodeo, and the town needed the added entertainment and income. Today’s Stampede has grown into a multi-faceted event, showcasing the best of rodeo and ranch cowboys alike.
Concessions and a full bar are available each night, with gates opening at 4:00 pm,
Thursday July 13 is the Kickoff Party with a tri-tip dinner and Old West Bronc Riding.
Other nights, Mutton Busting at 6:00pm, and the PRCA performance beginning at 7:00 pm. Dance to follow.
Diamond Z Shire Hitch from Cedar City, Utah and Tomas Garcilazo, skilled horseman and rope artist, will be specialty acts.

Old West Bronc Riding
Paula Wright Memorial Scholarships

Together with the family of the late Paula Wright, the Silver State Stampede Association would like to make known the availability of two scholarships, one for $1500 and one for $1000.
The scholarships will be awarded to Elko County graduates, but is not limited to 2016 graduates. Any past graduate of an Elko County high school who is currently pursuing higher education is eligible to apply. Former recipients are also eligible to reapply.
Since Paula touched the lives of literally thousands of people through her work and dedication to community service, the scholarship will be awarded with special consideration given to applicants’ extracurricular and community service activities.
Applicants will submit a resume and essay that will be reviewed and scored by a panel of Paula’s family and friends. Essay topic: if you could change one thing in the history of our country, what would it be and why?
Resume and essay should adhere to high academic and professional standards, with the essay being at least 500 words. Resumes should include academic and/or professional accomplishments as well as community service, extracurricular activities, awards received, and short-term and long-term goals.
Winners will be notified, and the scholarship will be awarded at the 2016 Silver State Stampede, to be held July 7, 8, & 9. Proof of enrollment is required; monies will be paid directly to the institution of higher learning.
Entries can be mailed or dropped off at JM Capriola Co, 500 Commercial Street, Elko, NV 89801, Attn: Paula Wright scholarship. Entries are due by June 1, 2016. Questions can be emailed to paulawrightmemorial@hotmail.com.
